Newburgh’s My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Hosts Launch Academy

Scholars and their families of Newburgh’s My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Launch Academy program attended a workshop prior to the start of the school year. Dr. Padilla, Superintendent of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District presented to scholars and their families about personal branding. Discussions ranged from products to people, their branding, and the characteristics that are represented. Scholars were charged with developing the characteristics of their personal brand and challenged to think about how the words they chose to represent themselves relate to their choices and behavior.

Throughout the workshop, scholars also discussed learning styles and multiple intelligences with and Dr. Diane Hills, Executive Director of the Newburgh Children’s Center. Another session included mindfulness, self-agency, choices, stress relief, and de-escalating of self, all led by Marie Schor, a teacher at Meadow Hill School.

Following the workshops, scholars from the MBK traveled to SUNY Purchase where they participated in a ropes course through Boundless Adventures that helped to cultivate problem-solving and leadership skills. Then, MBK Scholars and took a tour of the campus. At the end of the two-day event, MBK Scholars received school supplies to help support a successful start to the new school year.
