Newburgh Free Academy Celebrates Class of 2018
Newburgh Free Academy celebrated its 147th graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 21, 2018. 652 scholars from our three high school campuses donned their gaps and gowns to walk across Academy Field to receive their diploma.
The ROTC color guard and members of the Newburgh Free Academy band led the procession, followed by our Superintendent, Dr. Roberto Padilla, our co-principals, Mr. Raul Rodriguez and Mr. Matteo Doddo, current board members, retiring faculty, and staff, current faculty and staff, and our graduates. The Newburgh Free Academy Madrigals opened the ceremony by singing the Star-Spangled Banner and the Newburgh Free Academy Alma Mater.
Allison Vela, the class of 2018 Valedictorian and Brielle Maxwell, the class of 2018 Salutatorian each gave speeches. Allison Vela will major in the Biomedical Engineering at the University of California at San Diego. Brielle Maxwell will be attending SUNY Oneonta this fall to study chemistry.
This year, 153 scholarships that totaled over $127,000 were awarded to members of the graduating class.
