Artist Matt Maley Presents to Students at NFA Main
Artists Matt Maley presented to students at Newburgh Free Academy, Main campus about his experiences as an artist and career opportunities within the field of art. Mr. Maley is an illustrator, sculpture, design artist, and creator of large maps, similar to that of Where’s Waldo.
Mr. Maley discussed the evolution of his career as an artist and the different areas of art that he has explored. With many of his works, he has a five-pronged approach for making art work for him. He specializes in cartooning, product design, books and posters, sculpture, and 3D design.
Mr. Maley talked about his work with illustration of people, animals, places, licensing, and products. He described his design work of logos and icons, graphic design, and fashion and textiles. He talked about sculpture. Specifically barn wood, shadowboxes, and mixed media. Finally, he talked about his World’s Greatest posters, a large map that are similar to Where’s Waldo, so that viewers need to find various objects hidden throughout the work. Through all of his examples, Mr. Maley described his process from concept to completion, which included materials, cost and pricing, and time frames involved.
Mr. Maley told students that he like the challenge of doing something new and that you never know where those challenges can take you.
Over the summer, Mr. Maley is offering a workshop for students and offering three scholarships for students from Newburgh Free Academy.
