Dr. Padilla and Mrs. Caitlin Lazarski Speak at Cultivating Academic Success Forum
On Tuesday, April 24, 2018, Dr. Roberto Padilla, Superintendent of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District and Mrs. Caitlin Lazarski, MS, RD, SMS, Director of Food Services spoke at the Cultivating Academic Success Forum through the American Dairy Association North East.
Dr. Padilla provided a Superintendent’s point of view and focused on his approach to nurturing the academics of our scholars and how our Breakfast After the Bell program is a large part of educating the whole child.
Mrs. Caitlin Lazarski joined with Middletown’s School Nutrition Director to discuss best practices in launching a breakfast after the bell program and attracting students to take advantage of the nutrition options offered at school, as they start their day off right.
Mrs. Lazarski and her team in our Department of Food Services has been working to ensure that every scholar our district has consistent and nutrition breakfast and lunch options without financial concern.
The Newburgh Enlarged City School District has offered free breakfast to all scholars since the 2015-2016 school year and began providing free lunch to all scholars during the 2016-2017 school year. The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) provides an opportunity for districts in high poverty areas to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students without the encumbrance of collecting and processing school meal applications for free and reduced-price meals.
This year, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District increased its standing by one place, as part of the annual Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) survey coming in 3rd in 2016-2017 and 4th during the previous 2015-2016 school year.
