NFA Senior, Azariah McLymore Honored by The Orange County Human Rights Commission
The Orange County Human Rights Commission held the 23rd Annual Orange County Human Rights Award Ceremony on April 18, 2018. Azariah McLymore, senior from Newburgh Free Academy, North Campus, Excelsior Academy was honored along with five other honorees. Azariah was the only student honored at the event. Azariah was joined by her parents, family friends, teachers Ms. Jackie Hesse and Ms. Christine McCartney, and her principal Mr. Kevin Rothman.
Azariah will be receiving her associates degree along with her high school diploma later this spring. In 2016, Azariah started the McLymore Foundation Inc., to help raise awareness of crime and stop bullying and violence in her community. With the McLymore Foundation, Azariah has hosted clothing and shoe drives, community health fairs, summer school sessions, family dances, art events, and reading clubs.
Prestigious awards that Azariah has received due to her activeness in the community include an NAACP award for being a future leader, George Eastman Young Leaders Award, and a Potential Power Award and a #DoitWithLove award from her high school.
She is currently the project manager for the Newburgh Youth Leadership Summit and Enlightenment Expo.
