Students from NFA North Campus Receive “Potential Power” Awards
Students from Newburgh Free Academy, North Campus receive “Potential Power” Awards through the year. Each month, faculty and staff nominate students who have shown great work, leadership, improvement, or general characteristics.
Students are asked to attend a meeting, which some believe is because they are in trouble. The teacher who nominated them reads their nomination and presents them with their certificate. Family members are invited to the ceremony and ice cream is served. This month, 14 students received the Potential Power Awards for various reasons.
Colton Andress, 12th grade, Gisselle Cheatham, 10th grade, Karla Coyopol, 9th grade, Octavius Fryar, 10th grade, Katherine Fuentes-Cruz, 10th grade, Isaiah Green, 12th grade, Suyhalia Karim-Doran, 11th grade, Kimberly Mejia, 9th grade, Israel Millan, Vincent Paglialunga, 12th grade, Mynor Perez, 9th grade, Ty’Quasha Robinson, 9th grade, Johancy Sanchez-Portillo, 9th grade, and Joshua Yough, 9th grade.
Some students were recognized for taking the lead on projects, initiatives, and events in school. Other students were recognized for growth, improvements, resilience, and persistence in certain areas or generally overall.
The overall theme for this month seemed to be students who found their voices.
“These awards are about the small things that really matter. The recognition shows that the students who have been nominated are role models and tend to do the right thing, even when they don’t think anyone is watching.” Mr. Matteo Doddo, Co-Principal of Newburgh Free Academy, North Campus
