Newburgh Free Academy, West Campus Celebrate Women’s History Month!
The students of Newburgh Free Academy, West Campus celebrated the special women in their lives through their own unique way. Each advisory at West presented their own celebration of women throughout history to the women in their lives every day.
Ms. Nina’s advisory chose a female role model who they admire. Students spoke on video about who they chose and how this person is someone they look up to. Many students chose their mothers, sisters, and grandmothers. Many students also noted the how important their teachers, school counselor, and principal are to them.
Ms. Kylie’s advisory chose Disney princesses and each student spoke about the characteristics of those princesses that they most admire. For example, the students chose Jasmine because she protected against arranged marriage and Aladdin needed HER to save him. Tiana worked hard for her own dreams. Milan fought for what she wanted and received a Medal of Honor for her efforts. Merida saved her whole family from a curse. Shuri was the most badass princess of them all as she was the brains behind Wakanda. The students ended their presentation by playing an interactive game of Kahoot, which allows students to use technology to answer questions, measuring both accuracy and time of response.
Ms. Jill’s advisory compiled a video of all of the women at West to sharing their greatest accomplishment. Greatest accomplishments included earning their master’s degree, displaying their art in a museum, having children, being the first person in her family to graduate from college and hold a professional position, to overcoming breast cancer.
Mr. Devon’s advisory gave facts about historical figures and events that greatly impacted women’s rights. Each student gave information about a different woman or historical event, then went through and shared women who are important to them personally in their own lives.
Mr. Joe’s advisory celebrated the impact that their principal, Ms. Ebony Clark has had on the students in the school. Their presentation was both comical, and sentimental.
“NFA West feels like a true family today.” Ms. Ebony Clark, co-principal of NFA West campus.
