Saturday's Are For STEAM! Thanks to Mount Saint Mary College.
On Saturday, March 17th 78 scholars in grades 6 through 8 had the opportunity to attend a STEAM Academy hosted by Mount Saint Mary College. Scholars from Meadow Hill, Temple Hill, South Middle, and Heritage Middle Schools attended. This event was free for students, and lunch was provided by the college. Students had the opportunity to gain hands on learning experiences in STEAM based interactive activities led by college faculty and staff. Students also were able to partake in a Mad Science Presentation on Fire and Ice! Additionally, various workshops were held for the students to participate in.
Some of the workshops were:
- Exercise Is Medicine: Find Your Fitness - in which students could experience exercise through various fitness tests and challenges that helped broaden perspective and shed light on the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle.
- 3-D Printing - in which scholars learned exactly how a 3-D printer works by examining its working parts and functions. Students also had the opportunity to take home a sample 3-D project.
- The Incredible Journey - in which students answered the essential question, "where will the water you drink this morning be tomorrow?". Students followed the path of a molecule of water in the water cycle through plants, animals, clouds, rivers, and oceans. They tracked their journey using colored beads.
