NFA North Campus Hosts Town Halls to Discuss School Violence
Hundreds of students walked out of their classrooms and sat quietly in the hallway for 17 minutes of silence. When the bell rang, they got up and went to their next class. Additionally, each class held a Town Hall during different periods throughout the day.
“The Town Halls were very productive. Students were asking some really tough questions."
Mr. Doddo, Co-Principal of Newburgh Free Academy, North Campus
Five students developed the idea and hosted the Town Halls. Town halls were held by grade level. About 250 total students participated throughout the day. The students answered most of the questions with their principal on hand to answer more difficult ones. Students included: Morgan Gaetano, 12th grade, Annie Yang, 11th grade, Eliana Rodriguez, 11th grade, Jacqueline Aquino, 11th grade, Adam Amer, 11th
“I’m glad that we did this because it really showed that we have a voice. I think the most important thing to note is that this is our first step, but it doesn’t end here.” Morgan Gaetano and Amy Yang, student organizers.
