GAMS Hosts Third Annual Literacy Night!
On Thursday evening, March 1, GAMS hosted its third annual Literacy Night. This year’s theme was Comic-Con. Several organizations participated in the event, including the Newburgh Free Library, Orange Literacy, Barnes & Noble, SUNY Orange and Girl Scouts, with special guest appearances by Spiderman, Supergirl and Black Panther. Students attended breakout sessions where teachers read graphic novels followed by a theme related literacy-based activity. The evening concluded with a presentation by guest author and illustrator, Bryan Collier, who shared with students how he makes stories come alive with his illustrations. GAMS students who participated in Literacy Night received goodie bags containing graphic novels, giving them the opportunity to explore the genre at home.
