5th Grade Career Panel at Temple Hill Academy!
Career panels are a powerful tool for students to see that adults in their community care about them by participating, listening, and responding to each student's question. A connection is made between what is being learned in school and the tools they will need for success in the work world and beyond. Speakers' personal stories of their own school and career challenges give students hope. Opportunities are created for connecting/networking with local employees/employers.
This past week 5th graders at Temple Hill Academy had the opportunity to listen to a career panel composed of four professionals. The four speakers were: Ms. Marissa Alomar, Associate Director at RCA, Mr. Michael Kelly, Chef/Owner of Liberty Street Bistro, Mr. Joe LaGrutta, Marketing & Analytics at JayOh, and Mr. Steven Posada, Diversity Admissions Counselor at Dutchess Community College.
All of the panel speakers highlighted the importance of having a strong work ethic for success, and to try new things as scholars make the transition to Middle School. Mr. Posada mentioned, "you are who you hang out with" to demonstrate to the scholars the importance of surrounding yourself with friends who are going to support you and also be successful.

(Panel members also stayed later in the day to speak to 8th graders as well on similar topics)
