The Black History Club Highlights Black Girl Magic at Annual Show

The Black History Club honored Black History month by putting on a show for their classmates. The Black History Club is celebrating their fourth year and includes students from Newburgh Free Academy, Main and North campuses. The theme of this year’s show is: Black Girl Magic.

“We want to educate and inform, but also celebrate the accomplishments of black women. The theme of Black Girl Magic displays beauty, power, and resilience of black women. Children cannot be what they cannot see. This event is to highlight positivity and encourage black girls and women in general.” Ms. Silver Williams, English teacher at NFA, Main campus and co-advisor for The Black History Club

Their event included songs, poetry and readings of famous Black women, and a fashion show highlighting a timeline of fashion frequently found in black culture.

The Black History Club is led by an Executive Board of seven students and co-advisors, Ms. Silver Williams and Ms. Joyce Howard.

You can see their celebration on Thursday, March 22^nd at 6:30pm at NFA, Main Campus, Auditorium. This event will also give honor and acknowledge students and teachers within district who have made positive contributions and have been role models to young black role models.
