Meadow Hill School Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Meadow Hill’s Inaugural Hispanic Heritage Celebration, held on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, was a resounding success!
The event showcased the incredible creativity and dedication of our students, who created beautiful ofrendas and displayed their research on inspirational Latinos who have positively impacted our community. Attendees had the opportunity to learn traditional Bachata dance from our students, enriching the cultural experience.
Throughout the event, student volunteers guided parents and children through various stations, sharing knowledge and enthusiasm, including a special video highlighting students cooking traditional dishes like sopes and huevos rancheros, adding a delicious touch to the celebration. Special guest speaker Carlos Berrios, Meadow Hill School alumnus, NFA West scholar, My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Fellow, and NYS Blue Ribbon Commission member, spoke about his experiences as a multi-lingual scholar learner. Additionally, families received a cookbook compiled of recipes shared by Meadow Hill School families.
We were also proud to host several community organizations, including For The Many, Fearless! Hudson Valley, Healthfirst, Newburgh Free Library, Latino Unidos, Citizens, Alcohol and Drug Awareness Council of Orange County, NECSD FACE, New York Immigration Coalition, Fidelis Care Health Insurance, and the Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh. These organizations provided valuable resources for our families, with information available in Spanish.
It was an inspiring evening filled with culture, learning, and community, and we look forward to continuing this wonderful celebration in the future!
