NY GEAR UP Summer Bridge Experience INFO


Hello GEAR UP Families,

Monday, August 12th at 8:30am at NFA North Campus, marks the start of the Week 1 for the NY GEAR UP Summer Bridge Experience. This interactive experience will provide your scholars with the information and tools they will need to be successful in high school and beyond. It will also serve as a sneak peak into what students and families can expect from NY GEAR UP during the next 4 years. 

While this experience is not a typical school day, students are expected to adhere to the Code of Conduct.

There will be a trip to visit Marist College on Friday, August 16th. The attached permission slip must be signed and returned by Wednesday, August 14th in order for your child to attend.

 

TRANSPORTATION - If you requested transportation for your child, their bus schedule can be found at the link provided below.

STUDENT DAILY OVERVIEW (TIMES & LOCATION) - Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) North Campus

8:30 am - Check in, Yondr pouch, grab breakfast 

8:30 am - 8:50am - Grab & Go breakfast 

9:00 am - 12:00 pm - One hour workshops split amongst four classrooms

12:00 pm - 12:15 pm - Grab & go lunch, Yondr pouch return, Dismissal

 

YONDR POUCHES

Yondr Pouches will be distributed upon arrival on the first day of the NY GEAR UP Summer Bridge Experience.  All students MUST place all electronic devices including ear buds in the pouches and lock them.  Students will unlock pouches as they exit the building after the scheduled day is over. Please review and read Policy #5695 (Use of Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices). Please note that the policy states, “Therefore, all students are permitted to bring cell phones to school; however, once a student enters the school building, cell phones must be turned off and kept out of sight during the entire instructional day.”  (Following the Yondr Pouch Procedures and Expectations stated above).

 

This includes hallways and cafeterias, as well as classrooms.  The day begins at 8:30 AM and ends at 12:00 PM.

The MAD-learn 2-day App camp is an interactive experience for students to expose them to app development, STEM, AI, coding, entrepreneurship, design thinking, and careers in technology. The curriculum is built around a six-step design thinking process. Students learn all of the important elements that are essential to creating a viable product, whether to be used as a unique presentation tool or an app for global consumption.
