Hometown Heroes Sip and Paint
Students in Mrs. Garcia's and Ms. Rayford's classes concluded their year-long project of Hometown Heroes with a Sip & Paint. Scholars spent the school year partnering with a selected group of students from Horizons-on-the-Hudson Elementary School learning about some of the local heroes of our community.
The project included interviewing Staff Sergeant Rivers from West Point and having a meet & greet with Sergeant Paul Daw who served in Vietnam. Scholars collaborated with the Newburgh Free Library and Historian Ms. McTamaney on researching both past and present military heroes. To conclude the project, students conducted a biography research of a Purple Heart recipient.
Based on their research, scholars painted a portrait of their hero while snacking on juice and cookies. All portraits were scanned and sent to the Purple Heart Museum to be sent to family members of those who are available.
