NECSD/ESY SUMMER FOOD BACKPACK PROGRAM 2024
The NECSD Backpack program has been awarded a $1,500 grant from the Regional Food Bank of the Hudson Valley! These funds will allow us to serve 125 students over 4 weeks this summer.
Our school district partners with the Regional Food Bank for the BackPack Program child nutrition program. The office of the McKinney-Vento Liaison works directly with the Food Bank to coordinate our Food Backpack program.
The Backpack Program provides a bag of non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food to each selected child every Thursday afternoon for him or her to eat throughout the weekend.
The program is scheduled to begin July 11, 2024, and end on August 1, 2024. There is no cost to participate in this program.
Students have been identified through the current McKinney-Vento List. Priority is given to our students who do not have stable housing.
The food bags will be packed and prepared at the Food Bank in Cornwall and picked up weekly by our NECSD Buildings and Grounds Department.
The NECSD Family & Community Engagement Team of Parent Coordinators will distribute the food bags to the identified students on the following dates at program dismissal: Jul 11, 2024, Jul 18, 2024, Jul 25, 2024, Aug 1, 2024
Notification letters will be sent home with the identified students on Monday, July 8, 2024 informing them of the program. The families have the opportunity to “Opt Out” if they do not wish to participate.
Distribution will take place weekly on Thursdays at the ESY building locations:
- Gidney Avenue School
- Temple Hill School
- NFA Main Campus
