A message from NECSD Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent
June 12, 2024
Dear NECSD students, families, faculty, and staff,
I am writing with bittersweet news for our community. Mr. Ed Forgit, our Deputy Superintendent has submitted his resignation. Mr. Forgit has had a tremendous impact on the professional development and direction of our professionals and by extension, the lives of our children. I think he can share his reasons for this decision most eloquently:
Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the students, faculty, and staff of the district. My years in Newburgh have provided me with an amazing opportunity to support our students. The many relationships I have established have changed my life. However, I have been gifted with an opportunity that has presented itself to me on three separate occasions throughout my almost thirty-year career. This opportunity has always intrigued me, warmed my heart, and provided the possibility for a better balance between a professional life and a personal life. This new opportunity will provide a challenging educational experience that will impact many teachers, leaders, and students. So, it is with great confidence and excitement that I am resigning from my position as your Deputy Superintendent effective August 16, 2024. I will be joining an amazing organization, led by an inspirational Superintendent and leadership team that mirrors my vision and commitment to education. So, as a graduate of the Class of 1982, I promise I will always be committed to Every Goldback, Every Day.
Mr. Forgit and I have had open discussions about his career plans throughout the year. Although I recognize that this is a huge loss for our district, I support his decision and am grateful for the decade and a half of his life that he has offered to the scholars of our district.
These discussions have also given me an opportunity to reflect on how my Executive team can best serve our district. Moving forward, I have adjusted the job description for the Deputy Superintendent and will begin that search immediately. I will continue to redesign and realign my executive cabinet for both efficiency in supporting our students, staff, and faculty as well as focus on taxpayer impact. With this change, one of my proposed Associate Superintendent positions that was recently approved by the Board of Education will remain vacant for the time being. I will take this time to remind community members that my Executive Cabinet has reduced three positions this year (Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Executive Director of Human Resources, and now an Associate Superintendent).
Please join me in thanking Mr. Forgit for his unwavering commitment to our children for the last 15 years. Mr. Forgit is a Goldback through and through. I look forward to working with him in his new professional pursuits and will always value his role as a member of our community and as a dear friend.
Sincerely,
Dr. J. Manning Campbell
Superintendent of Schools
