Ms. Cappello's Class Puts District Mantra in Motion - Literally!
Ms. Elizabeth Capello’s Media and Production class is literally putting the district’s ‘Do it With Love’ mantra in motion!
Students used the Adobe program After Effects to animate our district mantra. Ms. Cappello shared that it was important to develop skills in motion graphics that could be applied one day in a professional setting or to use for a college portfolio. The unit helped students better understand how animation can be useful toward branding a company.
Students discussed their approach. Some used different fonts, key words, types of movement, and opacity to compile their design.
When asked how this class could lead to future career plans, student, Keath Riley, gave an unexpected answer. “I was originally thinking about going into paleontology and this could definitely be useful to recreate plants or animals from the fossils I find, but I’m also interested in meteorology and think these skills could also be applied when working in that career too.”
11th grader, Rebecca Ferguson said of the experience: “I loved being able to see that I could create something from my imagination. I changed my approach on the second day, which took up a lot of time. It was nice to know that my dedication can take me to places as long as I am persistent.”
The Media and Production class is being reworked for future offerings. Next year, this class will be part of the Computer Coding Pathway and will focus on creating these graphics as well as importing interactive media into websites using JavaScript. The combined coursework will be aligned with the Career and Technical Education Program goals of being more career oriented and flow along with Computer Coding Pathway.
