Gardnertown Leadership Academy Hosts Literacy Night
Gardnertown Leadership Academy hosted Literacy Night, an event dedicated to emphasizing the importance of literacy, a fundamental skill essential for success across various subjects. The evening showcased a collaborative effort from our entire staff. Upon arrival, students engaged in a scavenger hunt, exploring different literacy stations throughout the event. Upon completion, they had the chance to select a book to take home as a prize.
AIS Reading teachers organized interactive activities focusing on letters, sounds, and phonics skills. Grade-level teachers also contributed by designing literacy-based hands-on activities. The event even featured a special appearance by the beloved character Cat in the Hat!
Furthermore, we were honored to have two published authors in attendance. Mr. Bryan Collier, a renowned author and illustrator, conducted a session for both parents and students and offered signed copies of his books. Additionally, Ms. Glenda Faison Crawford, a member of our school staff and published author, shared her book and offered signed copies of "The Adventures of Pumpkin Jackson."
One of the major highlights was the recognition of our student authors. During library sessions led by Ms. DePoala, students wrote and published their own books. Nearly 100 student authors were celebrated and awarded during Literacy Night. To conclude the event, our supportive PTO gifted each student author with a commemorative GLA Literacy Night t-shirt.
We extend our gratitude to everyone for their support, especially our GLA families, whose presence made the celebration of literacy even more special.
