NFA Youth in Government Club Hosts 12 Neighboring Schools for Annual Convention
Newburgh Free Academy Youth in Government Club hosted 12 Orange County schools and over 200 students for the annual Youth in Government convention. This convention mimics the political party conventions that nominate politicians for the general election. The NFA Auditorium and Library were decorated with balloons and set up for students to give speeches.
Each school has a delegation that votes for the speakers that they find most compelling. Some of the positions that NFA students ran for were Attorney General, Assembly, State Senator, County Clerk, Family Court Judge, and Congresswoman. Anita Akpan and Alexandria Crawford served as master of ceremonies for opening remarks and recognitions. NFA’s Jr ROTC color guard presented the flag and the NFA Madrigals sang the National Anthem. NFA’s Video productions class also participated by recording the winning speeches.
