South Middle School Scientists Practice Measuring Mass Using Triple Beam Balances
Ms. Burke and Ms. Carbone's 6th-grade scientists practiced measuring mass using triple beam balances. Students had opportunities to practice using physical equipment and digital tools to build and strengthen our measurement accuracy. To gain an understanding of the skill, students calibrated physical and digital scales, selected items to measure, utilized the instruments, and calculated the mass of their selected items. This is the kick-off of our study of the measurable properties of matter, including mass and volume. This will lead us to our study of density and how matter interacts across Earth's systems.
Story provided by Ms. Carbone.
