Scholars at Temple Hill Learn About and Celebrate White Cane Day
National White Cane Day is celebrated this year on October 15, 2023. White Cane Day recognizes blind and visually impaired people's achievements and the importance of a white cane. Students at Temple Hill Academy in Mrs. Fernekes' class celebrated White Cane Day on October 13th. Aiyanna Melton is a 6th grade student at THA who is legally blind. She lead a presentation for her class along with her Vision Teacher Mrs. Kelleher to teach her classmates and teachers about the importance of the white cane. Aiyanna taught her classmates how to type and write their name in braille as well as how to walk with a white cane. She created white cane pretzels and pencils to hand out to everyone as well!
