Students and Community Honor Events of September 11, 2001
Newburgh Free Academy students gathered in front of our high school campuses this morning to reflect on and remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. At NFA North Campus, students demonstrated the appropriate protocol to raise a flag to half-staff.
Mr. Matteo Doddo, co-principal, teacher and Mayor Torrance Harvey, Ashley Bustillos (C/Colonel) of NFA AFJROTC, and Superintendent Dr. Jackielyn Manning Campbell addressed students, faculty, and staff present at the ceremony. NFA AFJROTC leaders Ashley Bustillos (C/Colonel) Melanie Lopez (C/Lt. Colonel) Amy Furbino (C/Major) then presented the flag and ceremoniously raised it to half-staff.
Visiting our partners in education, members of the central office along with Board of Education and Newburgh Armory Unity Center board member Mr. Philip Howard, attended a short ceremony at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center where the City of Newburgh Fire Department placed a wreath on their 911 memorial.
NFA AFJROTC is led by Master Sergeant Christian Granda.
