NECSD Provides Over 1,200 Backpacks at Back to School Event
On Saturday, August 19, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District (NECSD), in collaboration with the Newburgh Free Library, held its annual Back to School: School is Cool event. Families were lined up to get their children school supplies from the Board of Education auditorium. NECSD provided over 1200 backpacks to families in our district. Each child received a backpack of their choosing filled with school supplies to help them be better prepared for the new school year.
The Board of Education Administration parking lot was converted to a hub for NECSD schools. Each school in the district was represented by its Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or teachers ready to meet with families and answer any questions.
Newburgh families came out in droves to enjoy music, free food, provided by Estella from Cafeteria Mi Pueblito, and much more. Local vendors and community groups set up tables along Grand street offering services beneficial to the community. There were also games and activities including chess and a basketball bucket challenge.
The Back to School: School is Cool event provides a great way for families to meet their school building leadership prior to the start of the school year. It allows families to become familiar with available resources, community organizations, and community leaders. It also aides new families in becoming acclimated with the community and district.
