The Superintendent's Summer Reading Book Club is Underway!
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jackielyn Manning Campbell, kicked off her Summer Reading Book Club at Gidney Avenue Memorial School (GAMS). Dr. Manning Campbell spoke to the importance of literacy and how it correlates with one's success in life. The Extended School Year Program (ESYP) scholars at GAMS were treated to a reading by the Superintendent of The Smallest Spot of a Dot by New York Times bestselling author, Linsey Davis, and Michael Tyler. Davis is currently an anchor for ABC News Live Prime and previously visited the Newburgh Enlarged City School District for Read Across America Day back in January of this year. The Summer Reading Book Club features a new book each week and will run through August 9th for elementary students.
Middle School scholars in the summer program at South Middle School received a copy of Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix | Shadow Children Series. The ESYP scholars were also given a Summer Reading Book Club Menu that features optional creative assignments to complete by the beginning of the school year. The Superintendent's Summer Reading Book Club was created to encourage young scholars to read and understand the importance of literacy to their future success.
