"Big Bux" Restaurant Celebrates Real-World Math Skills
Mr. Eric Buxton, math teacher at South Middle School opened his classroom restaurant, "Big Bux" to celebrate students who correctly applied their math skills to re-world scenarios. In class, students were tasked with calculating their total restaurant bill, taxes, tip, and all - for a variety amount of patrons! Those who responded correctly, were invited to a meal with their peers. Before they dined, they had to complete the same math problem - this time calculating for the amount of people at their table. Together with teacher Ms. Lana Versweyveld , Big Bux restaurant served delicious fried chicken, salad, ziti, rice, and more, while reinforcing math skills in the real world.
