2023 Law Day Art Contest for High School Students
Each year on May 1st, the United States observes Law Day to celebrate our legal system and the freedoms we enjoy. This year, in the spirit of Law Day, the Office for Justice Initiatives and the Historical Society of the New York Courts, invites high school students in New York State, to participate in an art contest inspired by the 2023 theme “Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility and Collaboration.” Cash prizes will be awarded courtesy of the Historical Society of the New York Courts.
The contest began on March 6, 2023. All submissions must be received by April 14, 2023. The winner will be announced on May 1, 2023. For more information, contest rules can be found at 2023 Law Day Art Contest Rules. All participants must complete a registration form to enter the contest. Registration forms and artwork may also be submitted by regular mail.
In 2022, the winning artwork was created by Julianna, a high school student from the 5th Judicial District. The piece, titled “Be Fierce and Pierce” has been on display in courthouses throughout the 5th Judicial District since September 2022 with its’ tour concluding in April 2023.
