Goldbacks Give Back! NFA Cosmetology and Barbering Help Those in Need
About 30 students from NFA Main’s Barbering and Cosmetology programs woke up early on a Saturday morning to volunteer their time and their skills to serve those in need. St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh along with Newburgh Ministry organized an event to serve 100 families who are in need this holiday season.
Families were treated to a holiday shopping experience with a make shift shop set up with mostly new and some gently used items ranging from household goods, clothes, toys, and toiletries.
“The primary donors have our employees. They’ve been very generous with a ton of gently used and mostly new items. The response has been overwhelming. And these students are really helping to make these families feel special. Our hope was to try to provide an experience that might not otherwise be possible, but that everyone should be privy to.” Kate Dabroski, Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations
Mr. John Etri, Director of Career and Technical Education & High School Visual Arts, Ms. Leanne Paganelli, Cosmetology teacher at NFA Main, Ms. Danielle Crinieri, Barbering teacher at NFA Main, and Mr. Gordon Acosta, volunteer barber at NFA Main were all on hand to guide and support their students.
Students from NFA Main’s Barbering and Cosmetology offered haircuts, shaves, manicures, and festive hairstyles to families of the event.
“The donations...the amount of items collected by you, your family members, your friends have left me speechless. The responsiveness to participate in this initiative was simply overwhelming. To our dear friend Colin Jarvis of the Newburgh Ministry, thank you for helping to bring this together, connecting us to families in need in our community. Through the generosity of John Etri, Director of Career & Technical Education at NFA, we were able to provide free haircuts and manicures through the students in the Barbering and Cosmetology programs. Special thanks to those students and their teachers, Leanne Pagnelli, Danielle Crinieri and a very special thank you to Efran Gordon & Mark Guerra, two local barbers who closed their shop that day to assist, ensuring our community had the best-looking heads of hair in town!” Joan Cusack-McGuirk, President and CEO of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital
