NFA Students Visit GAMS Scholars During Computer Science Education Week

Approximately 60 NFA students made a trip to Gidney Avenue Memorial School (GAMS) to work with the students. Their visit coincided with Computer Science Education Week which is aimed to promote computer science education in schools. The NFA students from My Introduction to Computer Science classes created "quizzes" that aligned with Grade 3 curriculum in math and science. The topics ranged from multiplication to the solar system to animal habitats. The goal was to have the students explore the computer science platform, Scratch, a block-based visual programming language, while also learning grade 3 curriculum.

Nearly 100 GAMS scholars participated. After the students completed the quizzes, they were able to create their own quiz with help from the NFA students. The NFA scholars returned really motivated and inspired by the GAMS students and it was incredible to see a different side to the older students and their wonderful interactions with the younger students. One NFA scholar shared, "You could actually see them learning!"
