Gardnertown 4th Graders' Creativity Shines in Native American Project

Gardnertown 4th grade scholars read through packets that had Native American picture writing symbols.  The project was facilitated by Ms. Feeley and Mrs. Rugg. They had their students brainstorm a story idea and then utilized knowledge of story arcs to build their creative writing piece. Each student wrote the story in English on the back of their "animal hides" and the symbol story on the front.

Ms. Feeley and Mrs. Rugg's 4th grade scholars were given a project menu that contained three choices for a project on the Native American unit. One option was to build a home of the Algonquians or Haudenosaunee (longhouse, wigwam, or teepee). The next choice was to create a short picture book covering numerous topics learned about in the unit (homes, food, the three sisters, jobs of men and women, clothing, travel, etc...). The final choice they could choose from was to create a board game with questions and directions how to play!
