NFA Students Explore Newburgh's History for Annual Trip
Once again, Jennine Sileno and Ginny McCurdy’s junior classes hit the streets on November third for their annual field trip to Newburgh. After reading numerous Newburgh Heritage articles written by city historian, Mary McTamaney and learning about the history of their hometown, sixty students and their chaperones boarded a bus for Beacon and stood at Long Dock Park to view the city from across the Hudson. Then they took to the water with a ferry ride to Newburgh, followed by a walk to the Newburgh Brewery to play trivia games about famous Newburghers like A.J. Downing, the Alsdorf Brothers and the Ward Brothers as well as famous landmarks such as the Palatine Hotel, the Academy of Music and the Ritz Theater. After touring Washington Headquarters, the students picnicked on the grounds enjoying balmy 60 degree weather before touring SUNY Orange campus and returning to NFA.
The bus and ferry transportation as well as admission to Washington Headquarters was sponsored by Connect Kids Field Trip Grant Program.
