Temple Hill Academy Scholars Explore Prehistoric Topics

At Temple Hill Academy, students in Mrs. Crofton's 6th Grade Social Studies classes traveled to the past to explore how people in earlier times used art as a way to record stories and communicate ideas. They explored examples of prehistoric paintings and relief sculptures and took a virtual tour of Lascaux Cave in France. They became aware of the materials, techniques and subject matter in the art created by Neanderthal hominids during the Paleolithic Era. They then took on the role of Neanderthal cave painters by going under their desks with a flashlight to mimic making art in a cave, and created beautiful cave drawings in the style of the Neanderthals.
