Vails Gate STEAM Academy Hosts The National Theater for Children
On Friday, October 28th, The National Theater for Children visited Vails Gate STEAM Academy and performed their play entitled Kilowatt Kitchen. Kilowatt Kitchen is a show focused around Energy Conservation. Its main character, Lorraine Quiche, is just about to realize her dream of opening her own restaurant. Unfortunately, her top chef, Chuck Wagon, has been wasting energy and now the power’s gone out! Without electricity, she’ll get a bad review from food critic Eggs Benedict Arnold. So Lorraine sets out to learn how to measure energy use and how we can reduce the energy we waste. With the help of Horace Flyman, a sanitation engineer, and zookeeper Adam Grizzly, Lorraine learns how to use energy wisely and saves the day for her Kilowatt Kitchen! Students and staff gathered in the cafetorium, many dressed in Halloween costumes, to enjoy the performance. The school was given access to an e-learning package that includes games, quizzes and lesson plans for the classroom to reinforce concepts from the show.
