GAMS Celebrates Hispanic Culture for Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15 to October 15 in the United States to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements for the United States.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, bulletin boards and classrooms throughout Gidney Avenue Memorial School were decorated with flags of Spanish speaking countries and Latin America and featured historical facts about the many influential Hispanic people throughout American History. Many teachers focused their classroom decorations to specific Spanish speaking and Latin American countries. (ie. Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, etc.) Their scholars also created presentations on the different Hispanic countries.
Scholars and teachers alike donned clothing from their native countries. Foods and treats from Spanish speaking and Latin American countries were also introduced in many of the classrooms. The scholars created crafts and artwork around the beauty of Hispanic/Latin culture. The students were excited to learn about the richness of Hispanic culture. A diverse culture filled, but not limited to, delicious food, percussion filled music, vibrant colors, and beautiful pride.
