New School Year Underway after Successful Back to School Event
On Saturday, August 27th, in partnership with the Newburgh Free Library and We Are Newburgh, who teamed up with Healey Brothers Kia, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District distributed over 1,500 backpacks filled with school supplies to families during the Back to School: School is Cool event.
The annual event ensures that scholars have the resources they need to be prepared for school and engaged in their learning. Juicy delicious burgers and hot dogs were provided courtesy of the Salvation Army, The Kiwanis of Newburgh, and the NECSD Food Services and Buildings and Grounds departments. Additional school supplies and information about programs and services available in the local area were provided by a variety of community-based organizations. Thank you to the Newburgh Chess Club, the Armory Dance Troupe, and Kofi Donkor & the Sankofa Ensemble, African Dancing and Drumming, who provided amazing fun and entertainment for everyone in attendance. The NECSD is grateful for the participation of City of Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey and the City Water Department, who kept our families and community cool and hydrated. Kudos to the Mount Saint Mary's College Athletics Department and Coach Colleen Ames, who provided over 50+ volunteers. We appreciate Operation Smile, the NECSD ROTC, our parents and community members, district staff, and Board of Education members, Ms. Carole Mineo and Mr. Philip Howard, who help to make this another successful event for our families and community.
