NFA North & West Goldbacks give back - volunteer at local food bank!
On Monday, November 20th, students from Girls to Ladies and Excelsior Academy at NFA North volunteered with Loaves and Fishes, local food pantry at United First Methodist Church on Liberty Street. Students divided and packaged goods that will be distributed Tuesday. This food pantry occurs once a year and is a coalition of food pantries, community agencies, and community donations.
“We are expecting to feed 1200 families tomorrow. They each get a turkey and all the fixings. We begin registration on Columbus Day and close Veterans. We will distribute everything tomorrow - the Tuesday before thanksgiving.” Deacon Vonnie of St. George’s Episcopal Church and Chairperson for this year.
“We reached out to the schools and the Principal, Mr. Doddo helped to spread the word. This morning, we had 6 girls from Girls to Ladies and 12 from NFA North, Excelsior. We also have a lot of retired teachers who are still very active in taking care of the community.”
Ms. Christine Hutchinson accompanied her group, Girls to Leaders. Ms. Jackie Hesse accompanied the students from Excelsior.
