NFA West Male Mentoring Program visits Marist Basketball
Mentoring continues at West for the All Male Mentoring Program! Students toured Marist College, attended a basketball game and had a mentoring talk with Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach CJ Lee!
School Counselor, Lakeya Stukes reached out to the Athletics Department to support the young men’s program with tickets to a Men’s Basketball game and partnered with the department to give these students a court side experience.
Coach CJ Lee started his talk by asking the young men: “If I asked every person sitting here right now, how many of you woke up thinking about your dreams? Who would be able to raise your hand?” He then went on to say to the young men, “It is important that when you lay your head on the pillow at night that you know you did something that day to contribute to your dream. Ask yourself, was I the best student I can be today? Did I study? Did I ask for help? Did I hand in my assignments?” He also shared his personal and professional journey with the students and asked them to identify their future plans.
Some of the young men had an opportunity to play a game called “Knock out” on the basketball court during halftime.
Each month these young men will experience a mentoring opportunity and/or participate in community service. There is more to come at West!
Thank you to Marist College Athletics for hosting our scholars!
