Mask Update for All NECSD Buildings/Buses - March 1, 2022

Hello NECSD students, families, faculty, and staff,

Please be advised that pending any update from the New York State Department of Health and/or the New York State Department of Education, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District will follow guidance from the CDC: 

Effective February 25, 2022, CDC is exercising its enforcement discretion to not require that people wear masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/child care programs. CDC is making this change to align with updated guidance that no longer recommends universal indoor mask wearing in K-12 and early education settings in areas with a low or medium COVID-19 Community Level.

As a reminder, masking in all NECSD school facilities, for all individuals, will be optional beginning Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Parents and guardians are asked to speak with your child(ren) regarding this personal decision and the importance of respecting the personal decisions of others. The focus of school remains the educational well-being of all students, so mutual respect of each person's choice to wear or not wear a mask will be honored in our school community.

We must continue to use caution by monitoring for symptoms and staying home from school if sick. If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, they should notify their school immediately. Additionally, we ask our community to continue to use other mitigating factors like regular hand washing and/or use of hand sanitizer and covering their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing to prevent the spread of illness in our schools.
