Temple Hill Academy Collects 2,000 Pounds of Food for Newburgh Food Pantries and Soup Kitchen

The Holiday Food Drive at Temple Hill Academy, sponsored by The National Junior Honor Society was a tremendous success, collecting more food than ever before. 

“It’s special to see staff and students from all grade levels, working together to help feed local families in need,” explains Caroline Schwind, co-advisor for NJHS.  Honor Society members helped to promote the drive during morning announcements and provided each classroom with a reusable bag, kindly donated from Hannaford grocery stores.  

Mrs. Suzanne Campora, who heads St. Mary’s Hope Food Pantry in Newburgh says, “We couldn’t feed the community here without the great people at Temple Hill.”  The NJHS Food Drive at Temple Hill has grown each year. In fact, the collections help stock the shelves of three other food pantry locations in the city of Newburgh. 

Lina Lynch, co-advisor explains the collaborative efforts, “we have some amazing people in our community who are always ready to lend a helping hand, like John and Brett from Home Depot.”  Every year, Home Depot volunteers to pick up the collection and distribute it to the local pantries.

Rayden Gould, 8th grader and NJHS member describes the event, “it displays a sense of unity and that good things shine through in our community.”
