A Look Back at the Lights On Afterschool 2017 Event
The district’s 21st Century After-School Academy participated in Lights On Afterschool 2017. Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their role in keeping kids safe, inspiring them to learn and helping working families. The effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and annually sees more than 1 million Americans celebrate at more than 8,000 events nationwide. This year’s theme was “The Library.” We collaborated with the Newburgh Free Library, where the event took place to provide families with information regarding library cards and services. Various community vendors which included, The Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh Teen Center, Access Supports for Living Healthy Families Program, Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson, Gift of Life Marrow Registry, The Salvation Army L.I.F.E. Afterschool Program, Cornerstone Family Health Care, Cornerstone Family Health Care WIC Program, Mental Health Association of Orange , MVP Health Care, Fidelis Care, Benjamin Barry performer and hoop maker, Newburgh Free Library, and the NECSD provided free give away items, demonstrations, and information and about their agencies to all interested visitors. Light bulbs were decorated by children in the district and displayed for all to see in the library lobby.
