Important Information for NFA Families

Good morning Newburgh Free Academy families,

The safety and well-being of your children is our highest priority. I am writing this letter to inform you about a recent incident that requires your attention. 

A post on social media has come to our attention about a potential threat of violence occurring today in or around a high school. Our building administration acted immediately upon receiving this information and the district’s Director of Safety and Security contacted local law enforcement. After an investigation by local law enforcement, it was determined that this threat actually occurred in an Albany area school that also ended in “burgh.” The initial posting of the threat only used the ending of the name to describe the location.

The district takes any threat of violence seriously. As an extra precaution, there will be additional police and security monitor presence at all three Newburgh Free Academy campuses today. 

News or rumors of the threat of violence in school can be alarming and I want to make certain that you have the facts. Your child’s safety and well-being continues to be our top priority.

Please help us by reminding your child to speak to an adult if they ever see, hear, or otherwise become aware of this type of threat to their school. It is through the work of all that we are able to love and support our scholars.

Buenos días familias de Newburgh Free Academy,

La seguridad y el bienestar de sus hijos es nuestra máxima prioridad. Le escribo esta carta para informarle sobre un incidente reciente que requiere su atención.

Nos ha llamado la atención una publicación en las redes sociales sobre una posible amenaza de violencia que ocurre hoy en día en o alrededor de una escuela secundaria. La administración de nuestro edificio actuó inmediatamente después de recibir esta información y el Director de Seguridad y Protección del distrito se comunicó con la policía local. Después de una investigación por parte de la policía local, se determinó que esta amenaza realmente ocurrió en una escuela del área de Albany que también terminó en "burgh". La publicación inicial de la amenaza solo usó el final del nombre para describir la ubicación.

El distrito se toma en serio cualquier amenaza de violencia. Como precaución adicional, hoy habrá presencia adicional de policías y monitores de seguridad en los tres campus de Newburgh Free Academy.
