Coach Malcolm Burks honored as Boy’s Track and Field Coach of the Year
Coach Malcolm Burks was selected as the US Track and Field and Cross Country Association’s, Boy’s Track and Field Coach of the Year. Coach Burks was recognized for this honor earlier in the year at a Board of Education meeting and again during the football game this week.
The award is based upon a team’s finish at the state championships, the number of different events in which athletes qualified, individual titles and how the team’s performance stacked up to previous years.
Coaching since 2008, 98% of the students coached by Coach Burks over the years have gone on to college. Three of his 2017 graduates signed Letters of Intent, receiving scholarships for both track and academics. Two others are set to enter college, and track and field is in their collegiate plans as well.
Coach Malcolm Burks graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1979, where he played football and competed in sprints ad jumps in Track & Field.
