Letter from HOH Building Principal

Dear Horizons on the Hudson families,

The safety and well-being of your children is our highest priority. I am writing this letter to inform you about a recent event that requires your attention.

Recently, a small bag of marijuana and a marijuana cigarette were found on school grounds. Our staff acted promptly and according to district policy in securing the items and immediately turned over the items to the authorities.

On June 3rd, 2021, our school was placed on a planned modified lockdown. During the modified lockdown, scholars remained in their classrooms while the City of Newburgh police department conducted a sweep of the building with their K-9 unit. The sweep was scheduled as an extra precaution to ensure no additional marijuana items were on school grounds. No items were found during the sweep.

Immediately following the planned modified lockdown and scheduled sweep of the building, our social emotional team was available to speak with classes or students that had questions or needed support in processing any emotions.

News of an issue like the one today can be alarming and I want to make certain that you have the facts. Your child’s safety and well-being continues to be our top priority.

Please help us remind your child to speak to an adult if they ever see something they are worried about. It is through the work of all that we are able to love, support, and educate our scholars.

Estimada familias de la escuela Horizons on the Hudson,

La seguridad y el bienestar de sus hijos es nuestra máxima prioridad. Le escribo esta carta para informarle sobre un evento reciente que requiere su atención.

Recientemente, se encontró una pequeña bolsa de marihuana y un cigarrillo de marihuana en terrenos escolares. Nuestro personal actuó con prontitud y de acuerdo con la política del distrito para asegurar los artículos y entregó inmediatamente los artículos a las autoridades.

El 3 de junio de 2021, nuestra escuela fue puesta en un cierre modificado planeado. Durante el confinamiento modificado, los estudiantes permanecieron en sus aulas mientras el departamento de policía de la ciudad de Newburgh llevó a cabo un rastreo del edificio con su unidad K-9.  El rastreo se programó como una precaución adicional para asegurar que no haya artículos adicionales de marihuana en los terrenos de la escuela.

Inmediatamente después del cierre modificado planificado y el  rastreo programado del edificio, nuestro equipo emocional social estaba disponible para hablar con clases o estudiantes que tenían preguntas o necesitaban apoyo en el procesamiento de cualquier emoción.

Las noticias de un tema como el de hoy pueden ser alarmantes y quiero asegurarme de que tienen los hechos.  La seguridad y el bienestar de su hijo siguen siendo nuestra principal prioridad.

Por favor, ayúdenos a recordarle a su hijo que hable con un adulto si alguna vez ve algo que le preocupa. Es a través del trabajo de todos que somos capaces de amar, apoyar y educar a nuestros eruditos.
