The Student Support Zone Engages Heritage Middle School Scholars
On April 28th, HMS students joined Ms. Tonge and Mr. Cobo to create a safe space and have a discussion around sensitive material dominating the news and social media, namely violent incidents between police officers and the communities they serve. Students debriefed the impact of systemic racism, shared their thoughts and feelings, and explored various ways to take action and empower themselves and their community.
Through their Google Classroom, The Student Support Zone, Ms. Tonge and Mr. Cobo engage with HMS students and encourage them to engage in self-care. Students have access to mental health and community resources, fun surveys to promote student engagement, and participate in biweekly google meets discussing a myriad of topics, some which are student-led.
