A letter from Superintendent Dr. Padilla / Una carta del Dr. Padilla
October 9, 2020
Dear Goldback Nation,
As we conclude our first week of hybrid learning for scholars in Phase 2, I wanted to connect with you and provide some critical updates. First, I hope you and your family are well. I had hoped to be able to provide more information about the timeline for Phase 3, however, with a steady increase of positive cases in Orange County and throughout the state, we will not transition more students to in-person instruction for at least another two weeks. At this time, there is no formal start date for Phase 3. We will make a public announcement about Phase 3 later this month as we continue to monitor the positivity rates in our district.
Schools are allowed to hold in-person instruction, per Gov. Cuomo's guidelines (issued July 13, 2020), however, if daily infection rates exceed 9% over a 7-day average, schools may be directed to close.
At the time of this communication, municipalities that make up our school district have a 7-day infection rate average of approximately 4.5%. We encourage our scholars, employees, families, and community members to continue to wear a mask, practice at least six (6) feet of social distancing, and regular washing of hands to combat the further increase of infection rate in our community.
If you have any questions specifically related to COVID-19 as it relates to the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, please feel free to contact the district at covidhelp@necsd.net or 845-563-3412.
Mask Up,
Roberto Padilla, Ed.D
