NECSD Superintendent, Dr. Roberto Padilla Named to National and State Level Reopen Task Force Groups
Dr. Roberto Padilla, Superintendent for the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, has been selected for two task force groups to navigate education during the ongoing global pandemic, COVID-19. Dr. Padilla has been selected to serve on the AASA COVID-19 Recovery Task Force and the New York State Education Department’s Reopening Schools Regional Task Force.
“It is an honor to represent New York State and the Hudson Valley during this critical time in our history. As we start to consider what our new normal entails, I will be sure to elevate the voices and needs of New York State and our community.” Dr. Roberto Padilla, Superintendent for the Newburgh Enlarged City School District
AASA, The School Superintendents Association, the nation’s premier organization representing school system leadership, has launched an advisory panel to provide assistance to district leaders as they grapple with the challenges caused by the coronavirus that has forced the shutdown of tens of thousands of schools across the country.
The AASA COVID-19 Recovery Task Force will consist largely of superintendents, the nation’s foremost thought leaders in public education.
The New York State Education Department’s Reopening Schools Regional Task Force has also selected Dr. Padilla as a member of the group. NYS Board of Regents, Chancellor Betty Rosa and Interim Commissioner Tahoe recently announced the formation of this Task Force to guide the reopening of our schools when it is safe to do so. Four Regional Task Force meetings will be comprised of parents, teachers, school and district leaders, school board members, and other interested parties. By working together as partners, we will ensure that the issues of health, safety, and educational equity always come first.
In the second phase of our work, the Board of Regents and the Department will review and consider the input received at the four Regional Task Force meetings and elsewhere, and use that input to make policy and regulatory changes to help guide schools and school districts in the safe reopening of their schools.
Throughout the summer, critical information about district reopen plans for the Newburgh Enlarged City School District will be available on our website, NewburghSchools.org.
