Heritage Middle School Scholars Write Poetry:
About the Where I’m From lesson:
A Place-Based lesson for children to express their roots through writing and poetry. After reflecting on their field trip to Denning's Point, hides of some of our furry friends (fox, groundhog, skunk, river otter) were introduced to remind the students that they share their community with these creatures. Focusing on the five senses, students brainstormed the favorite aspects of their senses, the images that came to mind, to practice using their figurative language skills. For example, one student loved the smell of fresh-cut grass or listening for his cats as they make their way to greet him when he gets home from school. After exploring how they use 5 senses every day the students got to work writing their own version of “Where I’m From” a poem by George Ella Lyons.
Team 6C at Heritage Middle School consist of: Ms. Holl, Ms. Sacks, Ms. Brown, Ms. Crofton, and Ms. Russo.
