Over 60 NFA Scholars Attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) College Fair
Thirty-seven high school scholars from Newburgh Free Academy North Campus and twenty-three juniors and seniors from NFA Main Campus and NFA West attended the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) College Fair on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Attendees included scholars from the NFA Black History Club and scholars from all three NFA campuses.
The goal of the trip was to inspire college and career readiness through college exploration. The trip was intended to expose scholars to the advantages and opportunities afforded at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and to give NFA seniors the opportunity to take advantage of HBCU instant admission opportunities not available through any other means in the Hudson Valley.
During the event, five seniors from NFA Main and West campuses were conditionally accepted to between one and four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).
Information was provided about future opportunities that included a potential HBCU College tour sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Additionally, students and NFA Faculty made connections with various HBCU alumni and admissions representatives as well as representatives from the New York Urban League allowing for future collaboration.
Story and photos provided by NFA guidance counselors, Ms. Tara Jones and Ms. Noemi DeLeon.
