Balmville Scholars Share Published Narratives with Classmates and Visiting Staff at Starbooks Café
On Wednesday, November 14th, Balmville Ms. Cunane and Ms. Thorne’s first grade scholars welcomed visitors to their classroom to share their published narratives. Classroom teachers Ms. Cunane and Ms.Thorne , along with Primary Literacy Specialist, Dana McDonough immersed their students each day in the writing process. Following five weeks of writing narratives, each student chose one story to publish and share.
Invitations were sent out to all faculty and staff to visit The Starbook Café to listen as the first-grade writers read their narratives. Visitors had conversations with the writers and asked engaging questions about their stories. The students were also given the opportunity to read other students’ stories and provide specific compliments.
The readings ended with a visit to the Starbooks Café for hot chocolate and cookies.
One student said, “I am a writer, but writers are never done. I can’t wait to write my next story!”
