Newburgh Free Library Gives Out Books to Trick or Treaters
With rainy weather this year, many families in the area took to the Newburgh Mall to trick or treat indoors. The Newburgh Free Library participated in this year’s Halloween event at the Newburgh Free Mall giving out books, as well as candy to families. Mary Lou Carolan, Assistant Director of the Newburgh Free Library remarked: “We handed out books for kids of all ages - the kids and the parents lit up with excitement at getting the free books to take home so much that many forgot the candy at the table. Books last longer than candy and going home to read together is best we could hope for. The branch in the Newburgh Mal is a unique set up for a public library to be located in a retail space, but it works. Libraries take on many facets of downtown anchor stores by the repeat, weekly visitation and the frequency of visits by children and families. One grandmother thought the book treats were so great it made her cry as she said, ‘This just makes this event all worthwhile. When we go home, I can read to my grandkids after a busy night of trick or treating!’
The Newburgh Free Library’s main library on Grand Street is open 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Mon. through Thurs.; 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Fri. and Sat.; and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Sun. The Newburgh Free Library Town Branch is open 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Mon., Thurs, and Fri., 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tues., and Wed, and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sat.
